Northern Home Counties Newsletter October 2020

Dear coaches, judoka, club members and family

Welcome to the first Northern Home Counties newsletter, where we aim to provide information to you from across the area including updates from clubs, coaches and players. Over the next few months we’d like to highlight the great work of NHC clubs who have managed a safe return to judo and provide some good hints and tips, as well as dispelling some myths for those of you hoping to return to judo soon.

If you are running a club that has returned to judo, we’d love to hear from  you. Please email abingdonjudoclub@hotmail.co.uk to share you story and any photos/videos with us.

CLUB GRANT SCHEME:

Many of you may be concerned about the additional costs associated with a safe return to Judo, the BJA have set up a new Club Grant Scheme whereby clubs can apply for a one off grant of up to £500. More information can be found here.

Following the change in restrictions in the UK and updated government guidance – the detail below is from the BJA website:

COVID-19 UPDATE: UPDATED SPORT ENGLAND GUIDANCE

Following the release of further guidance from Sport England, we can now elaborate further on what this advice means for judo.
Predominantly there is no change from our original Phase 1 guidelines, which many clubs are expertly adhering to across the country.

With the correct social distancing rules enforced in venues and the current non-contact nature of the training schedules, we are effectively classified as an “organised exercise class”.

In regard to travelling to sessions, you will need to adhere to the Government guidelines set out below:

Your travel plans will depend on the area’s coronavirus alert level.

Medium (Tier 1): You can travel to your local club, however, people shouldn’t travel into very high (Tier 3) alert areas to take part in sport and physical activity.

High (Tier 2): You can travel to your local club. Travel for physical activity is allowed within and in/out of the area to attend an organised sporting event. However, it’s recommended that travel is minimised where possible. People shouldn’t travel into very high (Tier 3) alert areas to take part in sport and physical activity.

Very high (Tier 3): People are advised not to travel into or out of areas that have a very high alert level, including for sport, unless this is necessary to enable individual exercise or to exercise for people from the same household or support bubble. This doesn’t apply to travel where it is necessary to enable disability sport, sport for educational purposes, elite sport or supervised sport and physical activity for under-18s to take place.

BJA AGM UPDATE:

The British Judo Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to be held Online this year, which will hopefully give more NHC clubs the opportunity to attend on Sunday 7th November. For more information keep an eye on the BJA website

We look forward to hearing from clubs, coaches and players to tell us about your safe return to judo.
