NORTHERN HOME COUNTIES – GRANT CRITERIA and OBJECTIVES

The NHC otherwise known as Northern Home Counties Area, is affiliated to the British Judo Association (BJA) as an English Regional Area.

Membership of the Area shall be open to any fully paid up BJA Category A Member Clubs of the British Judo Association who operate within the jurisdiction of the Area, provided that such Member Clubs complete the appropriate application form and are accepted into membership by the BJA and the Area Executive Committee.

The jurisdiction of the Area are as follows: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, and Oxfordshire. Plus, associated clubs on the periphery of the area which must have agreement of both areas. 

The following is a guide to the criteria and objectives used by the NHC when considering applications. Each application is considered on its individual merits and contribution to the development of area clubs and members.

The objects of the Area are to foster, encourage, develop and promote the sport of Judo at all levels and for all people. Promote, organise and provide opportunities for the teaching, practice and development of Judo for recreation and competition and Promote diversity and inclusivity within the sport of Judo. 

Applications are considered for the following:

  • Start-up Grants up to £250 for newly formed NHC area clubs, affiliated to the BJA. Grants can only be awarded for specific purposes i.e. contribution towards purchase of mats, judo suits, rent/facility hire fees.
  • BJA Coaching courses – up to £100 per person.
  • Initiatives benefiting the club (e.g. First Aid, Safeguarding, Club Welfare) – up to £100 per person.
  • Talented individuals (players representing England or Great Britain)) – up to £100. A contribution towards the cost of attending the event. This must be applied for by the Senior Club Coach. The Grant will be paid directly to the Senior Club Coach (Club Bank Account), who will then pass the award on to the individual(s). 
  • Talented individuals (Referees & Official attending National/International events) – up to £100.
  • Talented Individuals (players and Referees) attending European, World and Olympic events – The NHC Grants Panel has the discretion to awards a grant of up to £250.
  • Hardship. To maximise participation  – up to £100 per person. Can only be awarded for specific purpose i.e. mat fees, judo licence, judo kit.

Please Note:

  • Only one Start-up Grant will be paid to a Club.
  • Normally a maximum of two Grants will be awarded to an individual member of the NHC area in any one year.
  • Normally a maximum of £500 can be applied for by the Senior Club Coach in any one year.
  • It is a condition of the Grant that the recipient, if asked, provide feedback on the use of Grant Award. 
  • Any money not used for the stated purposes of the grant must be returned. 
  • To acknowledge the NHC in any literature or publicity materials associated with your Grant Award, including social media.
  • To permit the NHC the use of any information related to the Grant Award to publicise and promote the activities of the area in any communication or publication, whatever the form or medium (including the Internet).
